Lil Wayne Says DJ Khaled Was Behind the Register When He Had to Prove His Own CD Was His

There were no pictures on the cover, so a young Wayne pointed to his real name on the back.

Lil Wayne says that before anyone knew his face, he had to prove to a record store in New Orleans that his CD was really his, and DJ Khaled was working there.

The story came up on The Joint Venture Show after Tyra Banks described going to newsstands with her mom when her Sports Illustrated cover came out, and moving her magazine in front of the others.

Asked if he ever did the same thing with his CDs, Wayne said he did, and named a witness.

"You can ask DJ Khaled. He worked in this record store in New Orleans. He was actually working behind the register."

Wayne said Khaled would DJ there on Thursdays, the days Wayne got out of school early. So he would walk over with his group's CD, "True Story."

The problem was nobody knew what he looked like.

"I would show them my real name on the back of my CD because they wouldn't believe, because we didn't have no pictures on the cover."

Even that wasn't enough.

"They didn't believe it was me till I turned it on."

Asked whether he bought any copies while he was there, Wayne kept it simple.

"We didn't have the money to buy."
