Lil Wayne Says the Yankees Made Him Stop Using His Young Money 'YM' Logo

He got a cease and desist over a logo that looked too much like the Yankees' famous NY, and says it made him feel cooler.

Lil Wayne says the New York Yankees sent him a cease and desist over his old Young Money "YM" logo.

Wayne told the story on The Joint Venture Show with Craig Carton. It came up while he was remembering his first place in Miami, a condo he moved into when he was about 19. When guests got off the elevator, they were met by a big Young Money door with the YM on it.

Carton asked if the door was one of the dumb things he spent money on back then. Wayne said it was a gift, then added a twist.

Yeah, before the Yankees sued me.

Asked why, Wayne explained the problem with the logo.

I had a YM and they thought it looked too much like the Yankees.

When Carton asked if the team actually took him to court, Wayne set the record straight.

They just sent me a cease and desist.

Wayne said he stopped using the logo and changed it. When the move was called petty at the table, Wayne did not see it that way.

I respected it. They're legends. I respected it.

He said the letter was a bit of a thrill.

I felt more cooler getting a letter from the Yankees.

He was told he should have framed it.

The story came during a bigger talk about learning to handle money the hard way as a young star, which led into Wayne's account of the day he found out federal agents had taken his art and his Grammys.
